‘Second-stepper’ demand gives boost to sluggish property market

More families are looking to move house again, with demand for three and four-bedroom properties 9 per cent higher than this time last year, according to Rightmove.

The mid-market, or “second stepper”, category for people looking to move out of their first homes saw a greater increase than overall buyer demand, which grew 6 per cent year-on-year in November.

The property search website, which releases its latest house price index today, said it was seeing signs that more family movers were returning as the market recovers from last year’s uncertainty. However, Rightmove still predicts that new seller asking prices will drop nationally by an average of 1 per cent next year.
